Dan Doyle was born and raised on Chicago’s Southwest side. His interest in creation and expression has taken many different forms but his mainstay has been oil for the past decade or so. He never really stopped creating as he got older and this was due to a strong, imaginative and supportive family. While earning his associates degree at Moraine Valley he began to hone in on his own style of drawing. He took a more permanent approach using only black ink to create movement and space through a series of closely placed organic shapes. He was heavily influenced by M.C. Escher during this time and worked specifically in black ink for many years.

It was not until he attended the American Academy of Art that his relationship with color had started. Earning his degree in Graphic Design brought a certain order to his drawings and very rarely will go back to using black in anything he has created. His love for color grew while earning a double major in Fine Art and Education at Northeastern Illinois University. It not only exposed him to many different art forms but helped maintain a certain work ethic when it comes to creating. However, the medium Dan could not put down is oil on canvas. His organic drawing style transcends into his painting style. With Ed Pashke and Vincent Van Gogh as his major influences at the moment his subjects have been colorful with a loose, painterly brushstroke.

Coming home from traveling around the world extensively, Dan had his first solo show with the places he visited as the subject. It was held in the Chicago’s Haymarket District and was well received. He is now an Art Teacher and continues to work in oil, but always continues to branch out to other forms of expression. His love for creativity is intrinsic and his drive to create will always be with him.
